Boring is a locally owned company founded in 1924. Focused only on serving the Central Florida area, our heritage and experience enables us to better understand the needs of the market we serve. Boring was founded on September 24, 1924 as the Lakeland Typewriter and Supply Company, Inc. by Dean Boring's grandfather, Frank W. Myers. At that time the company specialized in typewriter sales and service. Over time the company added office furniture and later office supplies.
In May of 1952, Mr. Myers persuaded his son-in-law, Allan D. Boring, to work for the company as General Sales Manager. Allan's vast experience in office management became an asset to the company's organization. He later moved into outside sales and was extremely successful. In the following years, he expanded the lines of products the company handled, making Lakeland Typewriter a full-line office equipment dealer.
Over the years, Allan took over the company and his son Dean began working part-time in numerous departments, including service, delivery, and sales. In 1967, after finishing school, Dean joined the firm full-time. In 1973, the company relocated from the original downtown Lakeland location at 122 South Tennessee Avenue to George Jenkins Boulevard. At this time the name was changed to Boring Business Equipment, which is a d/b/a to the original corporate name.
In 1980, Allan retired and Dean bought the company, becoming President. To accommodate the continued growth, the company relocated to our present facilities on East Main Street in Lakeland in 2002.
